Zenobia was queen of the Middle Eastern city of Palmyra in the Third Century, C.E. She was renowned for her prowess in battle as well as her beauty. After her husband, King Odenathus was assassinated, she and Marcellinus, a centurion sent by Rome to help the Palmyrene forces, become lovers. In time, she led a revolt against the Roman Empire and, for a while, controlled an area ranging from Egypt through modern day Turkey. Meanwhile, her love is tested when Marcellinus journeys to meet with the new Roman Emperor, Aurelian, his close friend and mentor.
