As this heartwarming family drama continues, it's a frightened, abused young child who brings Lea and Matthew together. Caring for the child becomes a healing journey not only for the boy, but also for Lea and Matthew. However, when the boy's abusive family want the child back, they must all face a future that's filled with uncertainty and more trauma.

On the plus side, Elkville has changed for the better. The remote hamlet has a new clinic. It's been funded by Lea's wealthy father, and it's staffed by a bright, talented doctor named Ned Finney. Doctor Finney thinks his life is perfect as long as he follows his father's stern advice. Ned must never give in to his emotions.

Ned's world collapses when he's hit by a speeding car. Afterwards, his physical pain is overshadowed by the pain of his unexamined past. As his upbringing comes to the surface, he wonders if his hero, his father, was really someone who cared about him. Or was his dad someone who lied to Ned about everything?

As stirring events unfold, all of the people involved struggle and search for love, safety and acceptance. But in the end, when their own efforts fail, they have to reach out to one another.
