President Gerald Wellington Thorne, a bumbling and ineffective leader, wakes up one morning to discover that his mouth has disappeared.

His wife decides that this is actually a blessing in disguise, one that offers her a chance to save her husband from drink and eternal damnation. She enlists the help of her pastor, who in turn recognizes this as his once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to transform his run-down storefront mission into a lucrative mega-church.

And while Thorne and White are assessing their respective dilemmas, Fuzzaluddin Choudry, a humble and affable immigrant butcher from Pakistan, hears the voice of God in a water spout in Washington, DC's Tidal Basin. The voice tells him that he has been chosen to save the President of the United States.

What evil force is behind this madness? Will the world ever be the same? Would it be better if we had a President without a mouth?

Author Biography

Mike Maggio was born in New York City, spent a great deal of time in Los Angeles and the Middle East, and now lives in Northern Virginia with his wife and family, including a green-cheeked conure named Zippy and three parakeets. He attended Queen's College (CUNY), where he studied Creative Writing and Literature, The New School, where he studied filmmaking, the University of Southern California, where he obtained a degree in Applied Linguistics, and George Mason University, where he received his MFA.

His publications include fiction, poetry, travel, and reviews in The Montserrat Review, L.A. Weekly, The Washington CityPaper, The Washington Independent Review of Books, and many others. He has instigated and realized collaborative performance projects with actors, artists and musicians, most notably cloudism and Music for Mummies.

Mike is an adjunct assistant-professor of English at Northern Virginia Community College, and an Associate Editor for Potomac Review.
