EVERYONE WANTS TO MAKE HIM KING.

The Jordan. Brown water to a wild man's knees. At 30, Yeshua walks into the river wearing his mother's cloak and comes out wanting one thing the crowd on the bank cannot see: twelve ordinary men who can carry a kingdom without turning it into a throne. Fishermen. A tax man. A zealot with no knife on his belt. A Judean who keeps the purse and needs the count to come out even. He repairs sandals, sets a boy's ankle, mends a torn net, and feeds five thousand on a hillside, and each time the road tries to name him, he hands them bread and walks the other way. His mother waits on a porch. Ten women choose their own roads. A blind beggar sees the council before the council sees him. This is the novel of the crowded years: lakeshores and shut synagogues, a storm with an empty oar, and a man who could have been king teaching twelve slow learners how to refuse a crown.
