by Jane Helen Findlater (Author)

A charming yet melancholic tale set in rural Scotland in the 18th century about the life history of two sisters, Henrietta and Lucie, brought up in a secluded mansion by a strangely inhuman mother.

Author Biography

Jane Findlater (1866-1946) was a celebrated novelist and short-story writer, sometimes in collaboration with her elder sister Mary. Her first novel, 'The Green Graves of Balgowrie' (1896), was a great success. She became known for her authentic portrayals of rural life in Scotland, and was admired by contemporaries such as Rudyard Kipling and Virginia Woolf.
