You don't need to be a physicist to understand it, but I did find myself going back to re-read explanations a few times over to make sure I was following along. For point of reference, I have never taken a physics class. Fein has a beautiful use of language and descriptions throughout the novel and you get a true sense of why the characters are the way they are. This novel is in true dystopian form as well.
