This book addresses the genealogy and consequences of nihilism, attempts at 'sociologizing' the concept of nihilism by relating nihilism to capitalism, post-politics and terrorism, and considers the possibilities of overcoming nihilism.
Bülent Diken is senior lecturer at Lancaster University, Department of Sociology. Previously he held a research position in Aarhus School of Architecture where he completed his Ph.D. in urban studies, and an assistant professorship at Roskilde University, Department of Geography. His books include Strangers, Ambivalence and Social Theory (1998). Recently he has co-authored The Culture of Exception (Routledge, 2005), and Sociology through the Projector (Routledge 2007).
