The story celebrates the life of artisan Maria Guadalupe "Lupe" Castro Luciano. All the rag dolls in this book were made by Lupe. It touches lightly on the struggles of the Otomi people and how they overcame challenges through sharing their handicrafts with people outside of their small town in Queretaro, Mexico. In 2018, the state of Queretaro named the Lele doll its' cultural patrimony.

Although the book is entertaining and informative for children from 6+, all children at heart will find Lele endearing.
