A preliminary examination of the body suggests that Emma Cooper's death was the result of a grizzly attack; however, forensic analyses concludes that not only was her death a homicide, but that she'd given birth only minutes before her demise, yet no infant was found at the scene.

When Chesterfield visits Flying Aces Ranch to deliver the news to Harrison Cooper about the death of his daughter and disappearance of his grandson, he inadvertently stumbles upon a second crime that's being committed against him.
Is the person who's trying to kill Harrison Cooper the same person who murdered his daughter and stole her newborn son? Are the two crimes coincidental or are they connected? Chesterfield's investigation will lead him to multiple suspects, but only one of them is guilty of murder, and the culprit is closer to Chesterfield than he could've ever imagined.

Solving these two crimes isn't the only problem facing the new sheriff. A dangerous nemesis from his past has tracked him to Cowbell, intent on finishing the job he started months before - putting Daniel Chesterfield in his grave.
