The stories in this collection grew from more than twenty-five years of my experience living in Hawai'i, first on Maui, then Oahu, and finally the Big Island. Many of the stories were published in local literary magazines or in Hawaii's most widely read magazine, Honolulu Magazine. The stories and characters are fictional, but they are based on the struggles people face when searching for a paradise.
While escaping to write, I have taught English in Kabul, coached a swim team in Santo Domingo, pretended to be a sports writer for The Maui News, led scuba dive tours in Maui, and survived long enough to be called professor at a small college in Hawaii.
