There is a juncture where fantasy and reality co-exist and sometimes the lines between the two get blurry. This is the tale of a lonely boy who visits that place and begins developing the friendship needed to help chart the awkward path to manhood.Set in the early 60's, the boy has spent his life hiding behind a wall of books, movies, television and radio. His ability to come out from behind the wall and face the harsh truths of adulthood will depend on what he has learned about the value of friends.
If you look out the corner of your eye at a fun-house mirror reflection of the boy in the story you will see glimpses of the author. A life-long Cubs fan, who still has a crush on Maureen O'Hara, Mr. Wells did ask for Wheaties when his tonsils were removed, got locked in the library after hours, and spent many a summer afternoon under a shade tree reading books. Mr. Wells wrote Sports for a local weekly while in high school, did movie reviews and wrote an opinion column for his collage paper, and worked almost a decade as a radio disc jockey. He has collected a drawer full of blue ribbons over the years from the Creative Writing division of his state fair. The Silver Horn of Robin Hood is his first novel.
