by Benedicta Ward (Author)
In the 7th and 8th centuries missionaries from Rome introduced Christianity to England. Ward discusses the literary and non-literary sources on the life of Anglo-Saxons in the years following their conversion. Both Mediterranean and Irish influences on devotional life are considered. The English religion which resulted was a mixture of Celtic, Roman and Anglo-Saxon influences.
Sister Benedicta Ward is a sister of the Community of Sisters of the Love of God. She is Reader in the History of Christian Spirituality at the University of Oxford and an honorary lecturer at Harris Manchester College.
