Ayumi is the story of a young Japanese girl who is able to communicate telepathically with animals. Her Father is in the timber industry, along with his family, is sent to Borneo to overlook the felling of trees for export.

He teaches her the ways of the forest and its many inhabitants both good and bad and the tale of destruction of his habitat.
